In addition to calming the existing building with the now evenly spaced end line of the window bands and the now smoother façade, the building is given a distinctive accent by the widely visible collector surfaces on the south façade and the spectacular “solar” roof structure. The renovation of the project is scheduled to take place immediately after the construction of a high-rise at the other end of the Reeperbahn. Thus, there will be two high-rise buildings flanking the Reeperbahn in the future: On one side, the dancing towers (by architect Teherani and others), and on the other, a renovated passive house that produces energy. From the author’s perspective, on the one hand, a new building with old architecture, and on the other, an old building, renovated and with modern (solar) architecture. On the roof, three very high-quality apartments will be built in a lightweight structure (with solid partition walls between the apartments). These will take advantage of the beautiful view of the nearby harbor and will also achieve passive house standards.
