HolzKreislauf – Research Study on Solution Approaches for Circular Wood Construction in Austria

Consortium partners: • ÖGUT (ÖGUT GesmbH), AbR (Architekturbüro Reinberg ZT GmbH), BOKU (Institute of Production and Logistics at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna), BioBASE (BioBASE GmbH)

Funded by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Regions and Tourism, application no. BMLRT/III-2023-M9/8 (FAI.84)

The research goal is to assess the cicularity of various wood construction product groups and to itemize the most important challenges and fields of action in the various life stages of construction in order to improve their circulation. Another aim is to visualise mass flows from 2023 and from an optimal scenario in 2050. en

PV-adapt

deals with the development of prefabricated facade elements which can carry PV, thermal collectors, plants or plants + PV. Moreover, a novel collector should allow a cheaper way to produce heat and / or electricity. Among the Europe-wide examples one project is located in Fehring. Funded by the European Commission, Research & Innovation – H2020, Pro. No. 818342, 2017-21,

houseful

HOUSEFUL proposes an innovative paradigm shift towards a circular economy for the housing sector. The main goal is to develop and demonstrate an integrated systemic service (HOUSEFUL Service) composed of 11 circular solutions co-created by stakeholders in the current housing value chain. The HOUSEFUL Service will aim at the circular management and efficient use of water, waste, energy and material resources for all stages of the European building’s life cycle.Funded by the European Commission, Research & Innovation – H2020, Nr. 776708, 2017-23

COOLSKIN – Self-contained cooling via building envelopes

Research subject of Coolskin are decentralized systems for cooling of interiors. The incident on the facade surface solar radiation is converted directly or deferred in cooling energy and delivered to the room behind. The energy supply is selfsufficient in itself and needs no energy from external sources. In the study, numerical analysis, experimental investigations in the laboratory to reality took laboratory setups and field tests are conducted under realistic conditions; together with the Institute of Thermal Engineering – Graz; University of Technology, AIT Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH (AIT Energy); Hans Höllwart – Research Center for Integral Construction AG, qpunkt GMBH, funded by the Austrian Resarch Promotion Agency (FFG 848871), 2015-18

Shape-PV – The shape of BIPV to come: Concept

In the research project “Shape-PV” – commissioned by the Climate and Energy Fund and FFG – a project consortium consisting of AIT Austrian Institute of Technology (consortium leader), FH Technikum Wien, Architekturbüro Reinberg ZT GmbH and ATB Becker developed a research roadmap for building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) Austria. The objective of the future research needs of the BIPV was defined and presented in a structured project portfolio until 2020 and beyond. Funded by the Climate and Energy Fund of the Federal Government and the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), Proj.Nr .: 848884, 2015-17.

Plus Energy Administration Building Ernstbrunn

The new office building (head office) of the company Windkraft Simonsfeld AG in Ernstbrunn is to be further developed from a positive energy house planning in 7 steps beyond a positive energy balance to a demonstration building, the direct mechanical use of wind power, direct use of direct current, the ecological optimization of buildings and traffic to and from the building using own energy generation the space efficiency of the own energy production (solar thermal and PV) a 100% energy façade designed for summer as well as winter operation, environmentally friendly building site transports during the construction period and the support of smart grids by one optimized load management (“smart house”).  2012 to 2015, funded by Austrian Resarch Promotion Agency (FFG).

Refurbishment of an existing villa of the “Gründerzeit” to passive house standard with passive and active solar use

The project shows in an exemplary way how buildings of the time of “Gründerzeit” could be maintained and could offer a better environmental balance including the view of the village and the traffic than a new building. As an example a villa has been converted into a multi-family house within a larger housing project.
